Brasseri Sture 1912

Timeless, relaxed, and classy
On a very prestigious address, in the heart of Malmö, is Brasserie Sture 1912. Just like the name suggests, the restaurant's history began in 1912 when Nils Jönsson started his business, Sturehof, on Södergatan. In 1915, he moved to today's address, Adelgatan 13, next door to the well-known Savoy, among others. The building and the premises were built to house the Hotel Savoy's silent film theater on the ground floor, where the restaurant is today. Both Sturehof and Savoy were the type of classic restaurants that famous people from Malmö, especially within cultural circles, frequently visited. From November 2021, it is on Stolab's chairs that you can sit and enjoy a classic steak tartare, or perhaps a schnitzel, in a completely new environment, but where history also has a place by setting a clear stamp.

The restaurant has been located at the same address since 1915, and the name Sturehof remained for almost 100 years. In recent years, the name, owner, and concept have changed in tune with the business that has been conducted. In 2020, the current owner spotted the temporarily empty premises and saw its potential. It was a gem, well worth enhancing and giving back its former charm and welcoming attitude. Jonas Lindvall, architect "We wanted to bring back simplicity and accessibility. Create a timeless, relaxed environment, yet with class. With a certain homage to the restaurant's founder, we wanted to keep the name Sture and recreate the feeling associated with his business. More towards classic Brasserie than fine dining."

Completely new, yet preserved

Together with his colleagues at Lindvall Arkitekter AB, Carl Tengström and Garo Chahbandarian, the entire restaurant's layout and decor were redone, where color schemes in brown, green, and orange became dominant.

"We have changed most of it but kept what has always been characteristic of the premises, namely the fantastic beautiful glass ceiling with its French lilies and associated ceiling moldings and stucco. Even the arched, large windows at the entrance remain, making you feel closer to the city's pulse but also more accessible and inviting as a restaurant. It should feel easy to slip in."

Simplicity meets classic elegance

The simplicity of the long, wall-mounted sofas with their small tables meets the classic elegance of the four-meter-long bar made of solid Giallo Reale Rosso marble. Then add a consistent mosaic-clad floor, with an inset logo, and the influences from more southern European environments become clear. The walls are clad in brown-stained oak paneling, and the brown-stained, oiled oak is also found in the furniture that comes from Stolab. Martin Johansson, CEO of Stolab "It has been fantastic fun to have been involved from the beginning and to be able to contribute to creating such a special environment. We have had a close collaboration with Jonas' team throughout the project. When we meet and discuss this, and other projects, it is often food and dining experiences that we talk about. Now we could combine our passions for furniture, decor, and food in a joint project, Sture 1912."

Jonas Lindvall, architect "We wanted bar stools without a backrest for a more open and flexible seating at the bar. This made the Miss Button bar stool from Stolab perfect for us. Hundranian chairs, with the color combination of brown oak and green leather seats, are also very suitable for the timeless, yet characteristic feeling we wanted to convey and become a hallmark of the brasserie." Stolab has delivered Miss Button bar stools in oiled, brown-stained oak and Hundranian chairs in oiled, brown-stained oak with green leather seats for the project. The restaurant has approximately 60 seats, including the stools at the bar.

Well-made, unpretentious food

the theme found in the interior design can also be found in the menu, which offers contemporary food and drinks rooted in European restaurant culture. In the good spirit of Skåne, responsible restaurateur and sommelier David Kallós serves well-made, affordable food that fills you up and makes you happy. Nothing more complicated than that.
