Miss Holly

At Stolab they talk a lot about "aesthetic sustainability", about the importance of furniture that lasts over time, not just from a functional or manufacturing perspective, but furniture that gives the viewer an experience. Something that stirs the emotions and engages. At Stolab they want to make furniture that you want to create a relationship with, not just something in the crowd.

Miss Holly with added elegance

Back in 2011, she arrived- Miss Holly- Stolab's elegant stick chair that adds both grace and distinct form through its beautifully curved back and generous seating area. Miss Holly is clear evidence of when design and craftsmanship come together in the best possible way. Designed by Jonas Lindvall, who has collaborated with Stolab for many years, and manufactured by skilled hands that do not leave any detail to fate, but skillfully process the wood to its ultimate form.

A difficult chair to make

The chair's defining feature is its steam-compressed wood top, created through an intricate process of steam treatment and compression. By applying a combination of heat and pressure to the wood, it becomes pliable and adaptable, allowing the creation of elegant and innovative shapes. The result is a unique, distinctive contour that immediately draws the eye and evokes a world of graceful lines and sophisticated design.

The benefits of steam-compressed wood extend beyond its aesthetic beauty. Undergoing this treatment increases the durability and resistance of the wood, which in turn extends the life of the chair and makes it more adaptable to different environments and conditions.

What makes this chair most fascinating is its ability to weave together two worlds: the timeless beauty of traditional woodworking and the advances of modern technology. The steam-compressed wood is like a time machine that transports us through the evolution of history, showing us how the old can meet the new and result in something extraordinary.

Miss Holly is available in different types of wood, finishes and colors. The chairs have a distinct character and are equally at home as a solitary piece of furniture or in a group around a dining or conference table. The series also includes tables, an upholstered version of Miss Holly as well as Miss Holly bar stool and Miss Holly bar table.

"As a designer, you always have to add something new, a twist that catches the eye. When I started sketching the Miss Holly stick chair for Stolab, I started from the classic stick chair, but made it more elegant with a generous back and a more graceful shape, which together create a more three-dimensional expression. I wanted to move the stick chair out of the kitchen into the living room. It is a relatively complicated chair to make, which also makes it difficult to replicate. An aspect that can be quite valuable," says designer Jonas Lindvall.
